Project Description

The team at Canal were approached by the client and design team at Collins Construction to manufacture an impressive bespoke staircase for the WD40 European headquarters.

The client requested a feature staircase that connected three floors and reception desk inside the main central building; designed by the award winning workplace design consultancy Burtt-Jones & Brewer. The technical sales team at Canal worked closely with the client to address the finer details including building regulations, existing constraints, structurals, logistics and overall aesthetics. The client requested the staircase to be manufactured in mild steel with a raw oiled finish to blend with their brand identity.

Canal are extremely proud to have worked with the team at Collins Construction on this remarkable project. The in house team at Canal worked closely with Burtt Jones & Brewer & Collins Construction to ensure smooth delivery and fitting of the staircase, working in compliance with the latest building regulations.

Completed in 2020.

Materials Used

The client requested the staircase to be manufactured in mild steel with a raw oiled finish to blend with their brand identity. The oil-rubbed finishes uses chemicals to darken the surface of the metal, which is then rubbed with oil to give it an aged look.

The benefits to using these oils is that they dry hard and strong to protect your metal, and they inhibit damage from UV light and corrosion from rust.

Sustainability

The longevity of this project - the benefits to using these oils is that they dry hard and strong to protect your metal, and they inhibit damage from UV light and corrosion from rust.

The project was built within all ISO standards:
Environmental Management Systems BS EN ISO 14001, Quality Management Systems BS EN ISO 9001, Health and Safety Management Systems ISO 45001 and Welding, Factory Production Control BS EN-1090.

Issues Faced

Utilising sustainable and unique finishes that blended with brands 'oil' core identity. The technical sales team needed to address the finer project details including building regulations, existing constraints, structurals, logistics and overall aesthetics.
