This workshop is strictly only for Welsh Athletics registered athletes in school year 8 to adult, UKA qualified club coaches and parents of athletes.

There is a charge of £5pp. The workshop will be of interest to track & field and road running club athletes and coaches of all ability levels.

The workshop will seek to provide insight in the role that strength and conditioning plays in preparation and performance in the sport of athletics. The workshop will give you take away skills that you can incorporate into your training without the need of a fully equipped gym. The session will consist of the following topics:

Working with young athletes.
Safety & Injury prevention
Work with what equipment you have
Basic exercise selection and techniques
Progression to power development
Planning when to incorporate physical development sessions into your training plan.
Q&A

The session will be largely practical, for those athletes in attendance that wish to join in please wear appropriate clothing.

Tutor:
Rhodri Thomas Bsc Sports Science. Competed Internationally for Wales in Weightlifting, placed 5th at 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada. Current British Youth Weightlifting Coach, 1st British Weightlifting coach at Youth Olympic Games level in Argentina 2018, experience of coaching at World Championship and Commonwealth Games level. Worked with International level sports people across a variety of sports, including athletics, rugby, tennis, hockey, football and sailing
